I agree with this BTW - I think Apple just dropped a turd on the pro crowd with this...
The announcement of the demise of the 30" display was troubling to me, to be replaced by a consumer-oriented 27" LED power-saver with cheezy speakers and a widget-cam, shiny "edge to edge" glass and the same tired USB 2 connections without any sign of Firewire. Even worse, a built-in energy-saving ambient light sensitivity so your calibrated monitor resets itself every time somebody opens the door to the editing suite. Having Al Gore on the board has left a mark on Apple that says their brand shall be "built for the sheep who believe all greener is gooder." At least the damn thing is IPS.
I'm tempted to go grab up a 30 incher now, but it's far more likely I'll save pennies and someday just buy a monstrously expensive EIZO 30" display (about $5K) that's actually built for pro usage. I've never regretted the $2200 I dropped on my 24" EIZO in 2007, and with one dead pixel after a couple years of hard use (and still under warranty), it still makes other screens difficult to consider. They are double-industrial ugly beasts, but you just can't beat the uniform color performance.
